Aikido was founded by Morihei Ueshiba who is also known as "O Sensei", in the
early 1900s. Aikido was formed based on traditional Japanese martial arts which
O Sensei learnt when he was young. O Sensei was born on the 14th of December 1883.
During the second world war, Aikido was one of the martial arts allowed to be
taught in Japan as Aikido promotes non-violence, peace and harmony. Throughout
the years, Aikido has gone through many evolutions from the day Aikido first began
to this present day. Back in the early days Aikido was based on physical strength
then Ki( energy ) then finally spiritually. Philosophically, Aikido was developed
with a committed resolution to peace and harmony.
